In 2004, I bought Pap as a coming on derby. He had been given the call name of his renowned grandsire CH Borrowed Money, such was his promise.
Pap was fifty-two pounds of muscle and bone. Possessing tremendous speed, power, and courage, and yet so light on his feet. Pap would rip through any kind of cover to find birds. And when he found them, his intensity on point would freeze time.
At the end of the 2007 season, we brought Pap home for some rest and relaxation. Within a week we found him in his kennel in seizure. After two weeks of intensive care and innumerable tests, Pap was put to rest. Brain damage the vets said, probably a toxin, can’t be certain.
Always proud, ever loyal, and so very handsome, Pap was a one of a kind dog. Ave atque vale, good friend! |
